Program Description

Welcome to the Digestive Surgery Subspecialty program, where exceptional knowledge and skills in the field of gastrointestinal surgery are discovered. Together, we will explore the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in our efforts to provide high-quality healthcare to patients. With the advancement of science, medical procedures, and diagnoses in gastrointestinal surgery, including many types of surgeries that cannot be performed by general surgeons, Indonesia established the subspecialty branch of digestive disorder surgery in 1979 under the Indonesian Association of Digestive Surgery (IKABDI).


A digestive surgeon is a specialist who, after receiving additional education and training, acquires knowledge and skills in the field of digestive disorder surgery to commercialize prevention, therapy, and the restoration of health in patients with digestive system disorders or anomalies (Digestive Surgery Education Catalog).


The vision of the Digestive Surgery Subspecialty Program is to become a dignified, competitive, nationally and internationally distinguished center for Doctor of Digestive Surgery Specialists education in Indonesia by 2025. This vision is based on the latest research and technology to support the implementation of education, research, and community service, as well as the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.


1.) Enhancing the quality and quantity of innovative and internationally recognized basic, applied, and policy research to support education, community service, and public service.

2.) Producing competent graduates who uphold high moral and ethical standards.

3.) Devoting expertise in the fields of science, technology, humanities, and the arts to the community with a focus on national and international healthcare perspectives.

4.) Developing an institution based on contemporary governance and management systems.

5.) Conducting the education of digestive surgery consultant specialists while continuously considering and adapting to the healthcare service programs of the Indonesian government and advancements in the field of knowledge.


The graduates of the Digestive Surgery Subspecialty Education Program are expected to possess the following qualities:

1.) Professional :

They should be capable of providing professional and comprehensive sub-specialist healthcare services (promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative) with a high degree of competence.

2.) Educational Leader:

Graduates should consistently take the initiative to apply their sub-specialist medical knowledge in the field of Digestive Surgery to educate and train students, healthcare professionals, and the community optimally in the realm of education and training.

3.) Researcher and Innovator:

They are expected to have a research-oriented mindset, constantly striving to enhance their abilities, skills, and develop new approaches in fulfilling their professional duties independently.

4.) Manager:

Participants should be able to function as planners, organizers, coordinators, and evaluators in order to achieve the goal of improving the health and well-being of the Indonesian population, both on a personal and public scale.
