The rapid growth of medical science and technology in surgical field requires more specific subspecialities. Hence, in accordance with its mission of education, research, and service; Department of Surgery of Faculty Medicine of Universitas Airlangga, developed into some subdivisions, namely digestive, oncology, cardiothoracic and vascular, head and neck, and pediatric surgery divisions.
Universitas Airlangga – RSUD dr. Soetomo’s Pediatric surgery specialist education program-1 was established on 27th June 2014 as mentioned in Decree of the Chancellor of Universitas Airlangga No. 1543/UN3/2014 regarding the establishment of specialist medical education program of pediatric surgery in Medical Faculty of Universitas Airlangga. Hence, Pediatric surgery division commenced its specialist education program-1 in 2014. Formerly, this program study had carried out the subspecialist program or fellowship in pediatric surgery for those who has finished their specialist program in surgical field and hold degree as general surgeon; this specialist education program-2 was carried out since 2004.
The scope of study in pediatric surgery division of Universitas Airlangga – RSUD dr. Soetomo involves neonates, pediatric urology and oncology, pediatric digestive surgery, and pediatric general surgery. The curriculum was designed to yield a competent pediatric surgeon, who has a new paradigm, which is based on basic medical science related to surgical pathophysiology in fetuses, neonates, infants, and children. To attain the required skillset and knowledge as a pediatric surgeon, the candidate needs to take a 10-semester-study period, which is equal to 130 credits.
To become a leading and independent pediatric surgery program at the national level in 2024 dan internationally in 2030, based on ethics, morality, and entrepreneurship.

2.) To carry out basic research, applied research, and innovative policy research with world-class excellence based on national values and religious morals to support the development of education and community service.
3.) To dedicate the expertise in pediatric surgery, technology, and humanities to the community.
4.) To manage the pediatric surgery study program independently with good governance through institutional development that is quality oriented and able to compete at the international level.
5.) To produce pediatric surgery graduates who are competent, competitive, and have an entrepreneurial spirit in developing pediatric surgery services.

2.) To produce pediatric surgery graduates who are professional and competent in their fields and to produce pediatric surgery graduates, who are good in quality and quantity to meet the needs of the community.
3.) To produce pediatric surgery graduates who are able to create products, innovations, research/scientific works in pediatric surgery.
4.) To produce pediatric surgery graduates who are able to work together in an integrated and effective manner in the field of Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi with educational institutions, hospitals, other health service centers, government agencies, and professional organizations.
