Program Description

Clinical Microbiology Specialist Program, Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University (FK UNAIR) is a Clinical Microbiology Specialist Program that has been established since 2010 (Decree of Chancellor of Airlangga University Number 92/H3/KR/2010) until now with an extension of study program implementation set by Decree of Chancellor of Airlangga University Number 143/UN3/2021 in the course of the education and teaching process has been evaluated/accredited by the Association of Indonesian Health Higher Education Independent Accreditation Institutions (LAM-PTKes) with an Unggul rating in 2023 and obtained ASIIN international certification in 2020. This Program is under the auspices of the Program Management Unit (UPPS) of the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University. Currently, there are 15 permanent lecturers who excel in terms of quantity and quality, 19 Clinical Microbilogy Specialist Lectures, 8 Clinical Microbilogy Subspecialists/Consultant, 11 Doctors, and 4 Professors. Our Clinical Microbiology Specialist Program has repeatedly collaborated on research with partners from abroad, such as: Niigata University Japan, Kobe University Japan, Ryukyu’s University Japan, Erasmus Medical Center, the Netherlands, NIID Japan. Our experience of conducting research and collaborating with foreign partners is very helpful for the progress of our students to be able to carry out quality research as is done in several research centers in Indonesia and abroad.


Becoming an independent, innovative, superior Clinical Microbiology Program at national and international levels in the fields of education, research, community service, development of science, technology and humanities, with an entrepreneurial spirit, based on religious and morality, to achieve international standards in the field of infectious disease management in 2030.


1.) Organize professional education, based on learning outcomes, comprehensive and plenary infectious disease management competencies, starting from the stage of determining the infection clinic, the environment of the source of infection, preparation of specimens up to the causal diagnosis of infectious diseases, therapy and prevention of infectious diseases, management of infectious patients according to national and international standards.


2.) Carry out research, integrate with the implementation of professional education, base the achievement of competency analysis on the characteristics of bacteria, fungi and viruses that cause infection; pathophysiology and pathogenesis of infectious diseases; as the basic principle of providing therapy; management of patients with infectious diseases, and control of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in the community, as well as the epidemiology of infectious diseases, following developments at the national and international levels, based on the development of Science, Technology, Arts and Humanities (IPTEKS-H).


3.) Carry out community service, integrated professional education especially in hospitals, with the application of research results, which underlies the achievement of evidence-based nosocomial infection management/management competence in hospitals, global standards, prevention and control of infectious diseases, reporting of microorganism surveillance, and mapping the sensitivity of microorganisms in hospitals and reporting outbreaks in the community, following developments at the national and international levels, and downstreaming research results into community service activities.Developing educational, research and service networks within Clinical Microbiology in the form of “Academic Health System” through the FKUA-RSUD Dr Soetomo-Unair Hospital and other network hospitals.


4.) Carry out study program management, guided by regulations at Airlangga University and SN-Dikti, which are effective and efficient for the smooth running of educational, research and community service activities
