Airlangga University Faculty of Medicine students who are members of the Asian Medical Student Association or AMSA-UNAIR share happiness together with dozens of children with cancer of Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia (YKAKI) Branch of East Java.
This social event marks the 15th anniversary of AMSA UNAIR. They took the initiative to entertain children with cancer who are dropping in the foundation of Non Government Organization (NGO), (1/3).
The event’s chairman Bonfilio Neltio Ariobimo revealed, during the wait for treatment and treatment of cancer in Dr. Soetomo, these children are often bored and lack of entertainment.
Routine treatment and hospitalization often take 3 months to 2 years. The duration of treatment eventually forced these children to drop out of school so they did not have much activity other than treatment. Daily children with this cancer should always be close to the hospital where they are treated and treated.
Students FK UNAIR then took the initiative to entertain these boys by holding shows watching video entertaining children’s videos, as well as coloring contest. Events grew as students handed out gifts to them.
“Here AMSA UNAIR comes and shares the happiness and emotional support that children with cancer remain energized and not discouraged by the life they live,” he said.
AMSA UNAIR is one of the organizations that oversees FK UNAIR students for 15 years, Ormawa this one even become part of AMSA-Indonesia. There are three philosophies that become the foundation in the procurement of work programs, namely knowledge, action, and friendship. This is the reason they then celebrate the anniversary by building intimacy with the community.
Ariobimo hoped that the work program of the student organization of UNAIR FK could include more social activities to support the lives of children with cancer, as well as this kind of activity.
As is known, Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia (YKAKI) is a foundation of Non Goverment Organization which was established to provide shade for children with cancer. During the treatment process, they obtain educational facilities, rest areas, playgrounds, etc.
Visiting social foundations of this kind is often bringing newness. Ariobimo and other AMSA UNAIR teams feel similarly. Moments of togetherness with these children with cancer can give them their own meaning.
“Although they are children with cancer, but seeing them laugh makes us feel happy and touched. Because the shortcomings they experience do not make them desperate, depressed, or sad. The children look so eager and happy, “he said.
At the peak of the event, a candle blowing event was held by the students with the foundation board of YKAKI Branch of East Java. The anniversary ease of AMSA UNAIR was re-enlivened by singing together.
